Up Pine Bend Brook and Down Sabbaday Brook

Summit: North Tripyramid (4,180'), Middle Tripyramid (4,140')
Trail route: Pine Bend Brook Trail, Sabbaday Brook Trail
Trail conditions: Mostly dry
Weather: Very warm, slightly humid, mostly sunny
Total miles: 10.8
Total time:  7:05

With a one day break in the high heat and humidity it was a good day for a hike to the Tripyramids. I would be joining Jill and Mark for a hike up Pine Bend Brook Trail to North and Middle Tripyramids and then descending the Sabbaday Brook Trail. Jill will have hiked every 48 4,000 footer in the month of July with the hike to these two summits today.

It was a cool start along the lower section of the Pine Bend Brook Trail. It started getting warmer as we made our way up the steep part of the trail. It was nice and comfortable arriving at the ridge with one more section of steeps before reaching the summit.

We arrived at the summit of North Tripyramid and saw many hikers coming up from the North slide. We took a short break before continuing on. It was a nice hike over to Middle Tripyramid. There were hikers coming up from Sabbaday Brook Trail when we went by the junction. From here it's a short hike up to Middle Tripyramid and we were soon on the summit.

We had the summit view to ourselves for a few moments before more hikers started arriving. A few pics and we started our descent. At the junction we made a right turn and started down the Sabbaday Brook Trail. There are steep ledges on this trail that require careful footing. We got down over it with no slips or falls.

There were many hikers coming up this trail as we went down. With low water we had no problem traversing the many water crossings that this trail is known for. As we got closer to the trailhead there was a crowd of people/tourists on the trail that had hiked into Sabbaday Falls. At this point we were soon back at the parking lot.

This hike turned out to be more tolerable than expected weatherwise. I was glad for the lower temperatures and humidity than what we've been experiencing for the past week.

Congratulations to Jill for completing all 48 4,000 footers for the month of July with this hike bringing her closer to completing the grid!

Enjoy the photos!
