Along the Upper Ammonoosuc River

On Friday the White Mountain National Forest issued temporary shutdown orders closing the trailhead parking areas effectively preventing access to most of the White Mountains trails. So it would be another weekend of local hiking. My son Brandon joined me for a hike on the West Milan Trail that follows alongside the Upper Ammonoosuc River.

Staying Close and Exploring Beyond the Backyard

Continuing with the hike local theme I walked out to the backyard and kept going. There is a 2,067' mountain behind the house that provides some good views and exercise. Over the years there has been a lot of logging on this mountain. The mountain also provides the springs that flowed into the homes along the road where I live.

Waterfalls Wandering

In keeping with the current policy of hiking local and low I thought checking out some nearby waterfalls would make a good Sunday morning hike. A recent storm brought a few inches of heavy wet snow so I had no idea what the trail conditions would be. My plan was to visit the following waterfalls: Cold Brook Fall, Tama Fall, Salroc Fall, Gordon Fall and a few others along the way with no names.

Local Hike to Giant Falls

This current pandemic that we are all experiencing sure put a halt to my grid pursuit for the month of March and April. But I am going to do my part and stay close to home and off the high summits. Even though many of those summits are local hikes for me I do not want to take a chance on an unfortunate mishap jeopardizing others. I have not been hiking in three weeks but wanted to get out for a short hike here in the North Country.
