After hiking Table Rock in Dixville Notch we continued to drive north to Magalloway Mountain for our second hike of the day. This mountain is on the 52 With a View list. On our way we stopped briefly in Colebrook to pick up some sandwiches for lunch.
We arrived at Magalloway Road and it was a long drive on dirt roads into the trailheads. There are easy to follow Fire Tower signs all the way to the parking area. The last dirt road is a little rough and could be difficult with a low clearance vehicle. There are large exposed rocks, potholes and dips.
Our route would take us up the Coot Trail and down the Bobcat Trail. The Coot Trail is wide and seems more like a road going up although quite steep. We arrived at the summit and passed by the fire tower and cabin on our way to the outlooks.
There are some spectacular views from the outlooks with a very long and steep drop off. We went back to the fire tower and climbed to the top for some more incredible views. This is a great vantage point that provides a panorama of northern New Hampshire.
We took the Bobcat Trail down. There's an area of blowdowns that have been cleared up and were not a problem. It was a short hike down and we were soon back at the parking area. Even though it is a long drive to this mountain and out of the way there were still several hikers on the trails today.
These two hikes today were just what we were looking for. They are short hikes with spectacular views. It was a fun day of hiking with some great Fall weather!
Enjoy the photos and videos!
