I was joining Amy, Robin and Jill for a hike to Percy Peaks today. This was going to be the final summit of the 52 With a View List for Amy and Robin.
The trailhead for Percy Peaks is a short drive from my house. This morning the cloud cover was very low and the peaks could not be seen. I was hoping that the clouds would clear by the time we got up there.
I was the first one at the trailhead with Amy and Robin arriving shortly thereafter followed by Jill. Other hikers were arriving as we started up the trail. As we gained elevation the woods became misty from the low clouds.
We got to the South Percy Peak Trail junction and turned right for the hike up to the summit. It's a moderately steep climb to the top. The clouds started clearing as we went up and there were some great views opening up. The view of North Percy Peak was spectacular.
We stayed at the summit for a few minutes then started our descent and hike over to North Percy Peak. We reached the steep, open ledges below the summit. This section required careful footing as some of the ledges were still wet. We all reached the summit with no mishaps.
Clouds had cleared and there was some great views in every direction. Amy and Robin were on their final summit for the 52 With a View. It was nice that the clouds had cleared and they got the views. We spent some time on the summit for photos and eating before starting our descent.
We carefully navigated down over the open ledges and there were no slips or falls. At the trail junction we turned left onto the Percy Loop Trail. This is a very nice trail and makes for a nice, smooth walk without rocks or roots out to Nash Stream Road.
Once we left the trail it was a one mile road walk back to the parking area to complete the loop. This was a very enjoyable hike and I was glad to be back out on the trail again with Amy, Robin and Jill. Congratulations to Amy and Robin for completing the 52 With a View List!
Enjoy the photos and videos!
