Today would be a short hike to a summit that I have not been to before, Green Mountain in Effingham, NH. Larry would be joining me for this hike and he had also not been to this summit.
I used my GPS to find the trailhead and even then it was a little difficult to find. Larry was already there when I arrived. We were soon heading up the High Watch Trail. It was a gradual ascent with a few steep sections that were not difficult at all.
We reached the summit and climbed the fire tower, the top was open and the ranger was there. We stayed for awhile talking with the ranger and enjoying the views since the only views were from the top of the tower. Many mountains can be seen from this summit.
After descending the tower we ate lunch and then decided to go over to Hanson Top. It was a short hike to this summit and it had an open view to the south. This was our turn around point and we returned to the summit of Green Mountain and began the descent to the trailhead.
It was a pleasant hike down and we only saw a total of six hikers during the entire hike. We certainly chose the right hike on this busy holiday weekend.
Enjoy the photos!
