Summit: Mount Tecumseh (3,995')
Trail route: Mount Tecumseh Trail
Trail conditions: Dry
Weather: Started cool, cool and breezy on the summit, warm on the way down
Total miles: 5
Total time: 2:45
I opted for a long drive and a short hike today. I'm still dealing with plantar fasciitis and didn't want to overdo it so the hike to the summit of Mount Tecumseh seemed to be about right. The hiking time of two hours and forty-five minutes today was actually shorter than my driving time which took me four hours round trip. There was also the threat of showers and thunderstorms so I was trying to beat the rain.
I got an early start but there was already a few cars in the parking lot when I arrived. I was on the trail and heading over the first water crossing that was very low. The next water crossing was dry. It was a cool morning and a pleasant hike to the summit.
When I arrived at the top the cloud ceiling was just above the summit. There were limited views down but no views of the surrounding summits. Of significance here on the summit was the new survey marker. Recently I had seen where the elevation had been adjusted to 3,995' down from 4,003'. Sure enough, the summit cairn had been removed and the new survey marker plainly noted the new elevation of Mount Tecumseh. Not sure how that will play out in the future toward the 4,000 footer list but for now it still counts.
It was a quick trip back down and there were no showers although it looked threatening at times. This hike was just right today and it satisfied Tecumseh for August on my grid quest making it 335 of 576. It was then time for the two hour drive home.
Enjoy the photos!
