First Runs at Wildcat This Season

Up until last night there had been no significant natural snow to ski and ride on. Although ski areas had been making snow it just wasn't the same. So after a night of almost a foot of snow it seemed appropriate to take a few first runs of the season down Wildcat. After snowblowing the driveway we were on our way to the slopes.

The roads were slick from last night's Nor'easter so the drive to Pinkham Notch was slow and cautious. My son was joining me and it would be his first time on the snowboard since last spring when he took a spill at Bretton Woods and broke his arm. It was time to get back on that board and ride!

We arrived at Wildcat to find that there was top to bottom skiing although limited to only a couple of trails. Our first run was from mid mountain and we found the trails to be powder and packed powder. Next run was from the summit and as we made our way down there were lots of small moguls that made for some fun skiing and riding.

We continued using the high speed quad to the summit and made several more runs before calling it a day. The legs were getting tired from all the fun on our first day on the slopes.

This was a full weekend with hiking to Tuckerman Ravine yesterday and an afternoon of skiing today. There was also a "bonus" of snowblowing the driveway this morning. Welcome to the outdoor winter season!
