Snow started falling last night and was forecast to continue all day. On the drive over to Black Mountain ski area there was a moderate amount of snow coming down and the roads were wet but clear. Heavy, wet snow clung to the trees and it created a spectacular winter scene.
Pulling into the parking lot we found a great spot right next to the slope. We would be able to ski up to the car at the end of the day. One thing that was noticable from the parking area was that there were no lift lines - I like that! No lift lines means more skiing time.
There were three lifts operating, the platter pull, double chair and triple chair. The trails had an excellent cover of powder and packed powder. We got lots of runs in over the course of the afternoon.
While Black Mountain may not have the allure of the bigger resorts it still has its own charm. It is a hidden gem located away from the beaten path. Ticket prices are reasonable and they have special deals for local area residents. There is plenty of parking close to the lodge and lift lines are short. It also has its share of fun trails that wind down through the mountain forest.
We had a great time skiing here today!
