Wrapping Up the Weekend on Wildcat

After a fantastic hike to Mount Pierce yesterday it was nice to finish the weekend with some Sunday afternoon skiing at Wildcat. My youngest son Brandon joined me with his snowboard. The temps were mild with an occasional breeze and the skies were partly cloudy. A perfect afternoon to be on the slopes.

We arrived at a less than full parking lot and there were some open spots close to the lodge, a benefit of afternoon skiing on Sunday. After changing we walked to the lodge and I got my lift ticket, my son already has a season pass. The only down side of the day was that it was still vacation week and there was no discount with my Vertical Value Card that I had purchased at the beginning of the season.

On the positive side, there were no lift lines and we jumped on the Wildcat Express Quad for a first run from the summit. The trails were well groomed with thin cover on some that had been skied off. With no waiting in line we were able to make several runs in a short period of time.

After a short break to rest the legs, especially after yesterday's hike, we were back on the slopes again. We covered a lot of mountain and made some high speed runs down some fast trails. Conditions were excellent for some good schussing!

We both came to the conclusion that our legs were maxed out and rather than risk injury we decided to call it a day. Plenty of skiing/snowboarding, great trail conditions, ideal weather and no crowds made for a fantastic afternoon of skiing and riding!
